Most brands stop at “plant-powered blend.” We think that's a cop-out. Here is every ingredient in a PV2 sheet — the same list printed on the box, in the same order, with a plain-English explanation of what each one is doing in there.
The sheet itself
A polysaccharide derived from brown seaweed; it's the backbone that holds the sheet together and dissolves in your wash. This is what we use instead of PVA.
Used to form the sheets during manufacturing.
Keeps the sheets flexible instead of brittle.
A plant-derived helper that stops lifted dirt from resettling on your clothes.
Salt. Controls the consistency of the formula during production.
The cleaners
A surfactant: it surrounds oil and dirt so water can carry them away.
A surfactant that does the heavy lifting: it surrounds grease and soil so the water can carry them away. Together with the five enzymes, it does the cleaning in one pre-measured 2 g sheet.
A common surfactant that helps dissolve oily soils.
A coconut-derived co-surfactant that boosts cleaning and keeps foam sensible.
The support crew
A readily biodegradable water softener. It grabs the minerals in hard water so the surfactants can focus on your clothes.
Baking soda. Buffers the wash and helps with odours.
A preservative that keeps the sheets stable on the shelf (they're good for about 3 years).
The five enzymes
Protein stains: grass, food, sweat, blood.
Grease and oils.
Starchy residue: pasta, sauces, cereal.
Grooms cotton fibres so clothes look newer, longer.
Thickened food and gum stains (the sauce that "came out" but didn't).
What's NOT inside
Straight off the pack. If it's not on the list, it's not in the sheet.
The warning label
Like other concentrated detergents, the box carries the standard safety warnings: causes serious eye damage · harmful if swallowed · causes skin irritation · keep out of reach of children. Keep the box sealed and out of reach of children, and rinse well if any gets in your eyes.
