Most brands stop at "plant-powered blend." We think that's a cop-out. Here is every ingredient in a PV2 sheet — the same list printed on the box, in the same order, with a plain-English explanation of what each one is doing in there.
A polysaccharide derived from brown seaweed; it's the backbone that holds the sheet together and dissolves in your wash. This is what we use instead of PVA.
Used to form the sheets during manufacturing.
Keeps the sheets flexible instead of brittle.
A plant-derived helper that stops lifted dirt from resettling on your clothes.
Salt. Controls the consistency of the formula during production.
A surfactant: it surrounds oil and dirt so water can carry them away.
A conventional surfactant that does the heavy lifting — it surrounds grease and soil so the water can carry them away.
A conventional, ethoxylated surfactant that helps dissolve oily soils. Same deal: it's effective, it's common, and we're not going to pretend it's seaweed.
A coconut-derived co-surfactant that boosts cleaning and keeps foam sensible.
A readily biodegradable water softener. It grabs the minerals in hard water so the surfactants can focus on your clothes.
Baking soda. Buffers the wash and helps with odours.
A preservative that keeps the sheets stable on the shelf (they're good for about 3 years).
Protein stains: grass, food, sweat, blood.
Grease and oils.
Starchy residue: pasta, sauces, cereal.
Grooms cotton fibres so clothes look newer, longer.
Thickened food and gum stains (the sauce that "came out" but didn't).
Straight off the pack. If it's not on the list, it's not in the sheet.
Our box carries the standard detergent safety warnings: causes serious eye damage · harmful if swallowed · causes skin irritation · keep out of reach of children. That's because it's real detergent, not scented paper. Store it sealed and out of little hands, don't eat it, rinse well if you get it in your eyes.
